Farty Friday

With school only three weeks in, I hate to have the kids already missing school. Unfortunately, both kids have already caught some bug. First, Jordon-now, Emily.

She woke up this morning with a bad sore throat and a warm forehead. I told her to go back to bed and then I called the school. I know that her teacher this year is very strict-we've been lucky so far with teachers (she's in 2nd grade now) meaning, they've been laid back and not sticklers. NOT that strict teachers are bad, it's just that it's less stress on her.

I'm wondering if all the pressure this teacher has put on her just might of lowered her immune system. I'm afraid we might be in for a tough year!

Anyway, after working on some editing, I checked in on her to see if she needed anything. When I opened her door, I found her dancing in the middle of her room with earphones in her ears and holding her ipod.

I guess not being in class today was enough to perform a miracle cure!

A new route

When I started blogging, I started a couple of blogs because I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket. I've found over the years, though that it can get very tiring trying to keep up with all.

With the overflow of photographers over the year, I've decided that I really need to go back to building my blogging business to where it was because I fear that the competition will be too stressful among photographers. Not that blogging is any better, but I love it more!

So, I decided that I would blend a couple together that would still work with same audience and easier to build my business.

I've also been banging my head against the wall trying to decide whether to go to Wordpress. I think that I'm partially scared that it will take forever to learn and I don't really have the time to relearn a new blogging platform.
There are things that Blogger does that drive me crazy (hate the new interface, how the pictures load, etc.) and that I could lose all my work if they decide so. But, I really think it would be a good move career wise for the future of my blogs.

Anyway, my plan is to move my work at home and blog building topics to this blog. I think that it will be a nice blend for my audience and easier to work on one blog for all three.

I will still keep my photography community blog separate, so if you want to learn about photography, you will have to go there.

I hope you still stay with me on my blogging journey and if you are a follower, you switch over when/if I switch to Wordpress. : )

Avrie's Birthday

Oh how I miss blogging. I try and try to get to the computer to type up a post, but something always gets in the way. I decided to start my blogging again with announcing my granddaughter's second birthday. Yep, she's turning two!
We went to the park the other day and got photos of the kids and boy, THAT was fun. Why is it always easier to take photos of stranger's kids then your own family?
Anyway, here are some photos I managed to get before she was covered in rock candy from bribing her.
In case you were wondering, yes, that face DOES get away with alot...
Happy Birthday, Avrie!

Crap.

Since I got the studio in June, I've been nervous about the parking. It's located on a busy corner, with a tight turn. I've tried to not park on the end, thinking that surely, if any of the cars were going to get hit, that's where it's going to be. I made sure that I park up further to avoid this spot at all cost.

Last week, I was meeting a bride to pick up her book and I made sure to park way down from that dangerous spot. In the meantime, another car took up the place between my car and the end spot. I worried that the bride would have to park on the end and sure enough, she parked there when she arrived.

I tried to hurry up our meeting so she could leave and when she got in her car, I started getting everything turned off and ready to lock up for the day. We (Emily and I) were just ready to walk out when we heard a loud crash outside. I thought, oh no, she got hit!

I ran outside to see the damage, only to find her car untouched. I looked towards my car to find a car smashed into the building next door. It had hit and moved the car behind mine and got my right bumper on the way.

Crap. Crap. Crap.

Go figure. Had I parked in the dangerous spot, my car would have been fine.

Turns out, a young girl was learning how to drive and hit the gas instead of the brakes. I was so mad that now I would have to deal with taking the car in, getting a rental, and all the pain in the butt hassles with the insurance company. Then, my husband pointed out to me the fact that had we not had to turn lights off and lock up, we would have been in the path of the car and probably been killed.

First, I thanked him for freaking me out, then I thanked my lucky stars that all that we got was a dented bumper.

I felt sorry for the gal that owned the car behind us.

. She got the worse of it.

What about the bride? Well, she was a witness, so she had to stay and talk to the cops. I hope she doesn't take this as bad luck on her marriage. She already had her ring stolen on her honeymoon.

Hmmm, maybe SHE brought MY bad luck...

Make sure your child's shoes are the proper fit

Most parents don't realize the importance of proper fitting shoes on their children. Ill-fitting shoes can cause health problems down the line like, knee and back pain. Four in five children could be wearing ill-fitting shoes that may cause them long-term damage, say experts. Starting when they are infants, a proper foot measure is necessary for comfort. After all, they can't tell us when their feet are sore or scrunched.

Start-rite Shoes provides help in getting your child in the right size shoe. Start-rite is a company that makes comfortable children's shoes with the service of fitting shoes properly for your child. They have 400 locations around the world and a helpful website that showcases their shoes and gives helpful advice about fitting shoes, crawling, walking and care for your little one's feet. For example, did you know that you should cut toenails straight across instead of curving them? This could cause ingrown toenails. Also, you need to make sure that you get socks that fit, because if they're too tight, they can cramp the foot and cause deformity! The opposite can cause blisters.

I DID NOT KNOW THIS!

If you are unable to go to one of their retail locations, the website has a shoe sizing chart that is printable, so you can measure your child's foot size to order the proper shoe for them. You can also order your own fitting gauge to have on hand so you will know their foot size before you even leave your home!

Here is a video to demonstrate how to measure their foot.

So, the next time your child out grows their shoes, make sure you take the proper "measures"
(get it?) before you buy their next pair.
