It's Words with a Blogger Wednesday-are you so happy I've been keeping up? I'm trying!! :)
This week's blogger designs blogs. I am VERY picky about blog designs. I don't like too cutesy, or country, or too "cold" looking. Carolynn from I Love My Blog Makeover uses just the right combination of style and colors to create beautiful and eye catching blogs!
When did you start blogging and what made you decide to blog?
I started blogging at the beginning of 2008... I had no clue what blogging even was, my sister-in-law actually got me to sign up for one. I was pregnant with my first child at the time, and my sister-in- law and other family members used blogs as a way to keep in touch, share pictures with each other and so on. So I figured why not, and started a personal family blog. I didn't start my "My Blog Makeover" until February of 2009.
What kind of blog do you have?
I have a blog that offers Free Blog Backgrounds, Accessories, Tutorials, and Freebies. I have been working as a graphic designer for 7 years now and when I started blogging, I was inspired by "Cutest Blog on the Block", I really loved the idea of being able to customize your background. So I decided to making free backgrounds as an outlet for myself to do fun backgrounds and share them. I also used them as a way to experiment with other types of design that I hadn't before.
Do you make money from your blog?
Amazingly enough, I do make money from my blog, most of it coming from Custom Blog Design. In the beginning, I had no intention of making money or even trying with it. I did not even have the desire to do custom blog designs. I was slightly afraid of custom blog design because I was not very good with HTML and CSS. Most of my graphic design jobs consisted of print work, never web. I guess that people liked my backgrounds enough to contact me and ask me if I would do custom blog designs for them. I wasn't going to turn down the work and I really started to love doing custom blog design. It has since offered me the chance to be home with my kids 24/7, and I love it!
What do you do to network/promote your blog to bring in readers?
I don't really remember frankly how it started, just family and friends really. Actually my first follower (which seemed so cool at the time), was a young girl from Australia. I have no idea how she found me or anything, but it seems kind of like a chain reaction. When someone uses my background, someone else sees it, and so on and so on. So at first I didn't do much at all. Now that I have some traffic, if I am trying to promote my blog, I do giveaways, tutorials, freebies. Anything that I think someone would like. I mean who doesn't like free stuff ;)
How do you balance blogging and family?
Wow, this is the hardest part. It is really tough, I sometimes wish that I could throw out the blog, and give my 100 and 10% to my kids all day, but then I remind myself that my blog is the whole reason that I am able to spend all my time at home (with out it, I would have to get a normal job, and who wants one of those). To break it down though, when my life is not a hectic mess, like it is now (just moved, and I have a 2 year old, and a 3 month old), I try to spend 1 hour a day blogging, 5-6 hours a day designing, and the rest with family. I think that the biggest thing that helps me balance it all is just knowing how lucky I am to be a Stay at Home, Work at Home Mom.
How frequently do you post?
Like I said, when my life isn't totally hectic, I try to post every day, or at least every other day. The last 4 months though, it has been more like bi-weekly (ahhh...)
Do you own a business and blog about your business?
I do own my own business, it is called "Design Forte". It encompasses all the design work that I do, from the custom blog design, to all the other design I do for local businesses, and anyone else that contacts me. You can go to my website here: http://www.dforte.com/ but it is kind of lame, because I never spend much time on it.
What do you recommend to blog about?
Blog about what you are passionate about! If you aren't interested in it, your readers won't be. Also family blogs are fun, I find that it is such a great way to keep in touch with my relatives, especially ones that I live further from and wouldn't keep in touch with otherwise.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
My readers have completely influenced me! I am soooo grateful to them, with out them, I couldn't be home with my kids every day. Many many of my readers inspire me as well. I do custom blog designs for many different bloggers, and I really find that I am often inspired by their blogs and their journeys. It is interesting because sometimes I don't feel like I have much to offer, but blogging is fun, it is a way to share, and be shared with.
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
It has totally changed my life, just for the reason that I have said over and over, being with my kids!> Who are your favorite bloggers? This is hard, because there are so many! I love pretty much all the blogs that I have designed for, but here is a short list of my very favorites: http://www.lifebymelissa.com/ (she has totally inspired me with her weight loss and outlook, love her blog) http://www.kevinandamanda.com/ (I don't know how you couldn't love her blog, tons of freebies, fonts and fun ideas)http://lastingphotography.blogspot.com/ (I am not sure if this counts, but this is my hubby's blog and he inspires me in every way :)http://loveactually-blog.blogspot.com/ (Cher has the FUNest blog, she has cheap date ideas, and so much more for keeping your romance alive with your husband, it is a fun read)http://www.ohhellofriend.blogspot.com/ (Her blog inspires me in so many ways, the design is beautiful and so refreshing)I could go on forever and ever....
Do you have any advice for newbie bloggers?
The best advice I have to give to new bloggers, especially if you are trying to earn money on your blog..... don't give up and give it time. No blog will be successful overnight, but if you have something to offer that is fun and unique, you will get readers.
Thanks so much Carolynn!
Please visit her blog and tell her "hi" and that you found her here. :)

Words with a Blogger Wednesday

A spunky blogger, this gal has a fun blog with fun posts. She lives in England-how cool- and talks about what it's like to live there. She's even nominated for best food blog, so make sure you vote for her. Who else could make a BLT look so elegant?

A down-to-earth blogger and mom of three, this foodie blog is pleasant and sweet. She shares her recipe creations and adds other photography as well. She lives in Canada and showcases beautiful Canadian landscape photos. Her yummy (and easy) recipes are a sure hit for anyone looking for what to make for dinner or a snack.

I always knew food bloggers lived a romantic and exciting life. This blogging couple lives an adventurous life and document it on their busy blog. This food blog is actually a food, garden, travel and photography blog-whew, I'm already tired! They have wonderful photos to drool over and you will have fun reading about their busy and exciting life.

I could go on and on with all the great food blogs out there, but I will stop with these to tempt you to go visit them and get hooked on them as well. Write down a recipe or two while you are there, make it and send some to me-I'm hungry!

If you haven't visited this online community, you should go do so. BellaOnline is a great resource to learn about just about anything. They cover just about every topic from photography to health and fitness.Bella Online offers training and support for all their writers to make sure that they are able to provide great content for us to read. In fact, hopefully I will find out, since I'm applying for the stepparent column.
I found this out by reading their About Me page:
We are the 2nd largest women's website on the internet, behind iVillage (owned by NBC). We do this all without paying for marketing, without having a big office or big budget. We run as leanly as we can so that we can benefit as many charities as possible.
How cool is that?
They get 2 million page views per month, so they must be doing something right! This community is ran solely by women, which is very cool. I hate those sites that claim to be all about women, but ran by men.
So, go visit this awesome community and learn about something new or find how to fix that family issue.
Oh, and tell them how much it would benefit them to have me as a writer there! ;)

This interview is with Kim Bloomer from:
Bark n Blog
http://www.bark-n-blog.com/
Tell us about yourself:
My name is Dr. Kim Bloomer. I am a veterinary naturopath. My blog name is Bark N Blog (http://www.bark-n-blog.com/) I do all the blogging for my dog, Shadrach who is a Neo Mastiff.
My blog is a dog blog, actually written in "first dog". Originally it was a holistic pet care blog but a business coach helped me to see the humor and the audience connection just using my own personality and love of my dog to convey the same message. Blogging in first dog has been fun but my dog also has a very serious side to him - online and off! It has helped me see things more from a dog's eye view also which is important to the message we share on the nature of a dog, natural dog care and their welfare.
Yes, this blog has always made me an income. I didn't say wealthy but it has been an income earner from the first year I started it and not on purpose, it just "happened". Because of my blogging efforts a publisher approached me to write a book on natural dog care. I of course jumped at that opportunity. They asked me to bring a veterinarian on board with me (at the time I did not have my degree in veterinary naturopathy) so I did. That was my first income. Then a new media platform called "Pajamas Media" started and I applied to be one of their bloggers and they accepted me. During this time I changed the blog from blogging in first person to "first dog". I told them that after they had accepted me but they didn't seem to mind that at the time since they were a start-up political news site. I blogged with them for their first year until they got the attention of the mainstream media and then "no longer required my services" LOL! I am still blogrolled on their stie though, so it's all good. But the pay from them was decent. Now I earn from direct, ongoing advertisers on my blog and through affiliate programs I have listed on my blog. All of my advertisers have approached me and asked to purchase advertising to be on my blog.Really the opportunities to earn from your blog are as endless as your imagination. AND more importantly if you have good content, then your ranking will grow and you will have advertisers asking you to allow them to advertise on your blog.
As with all news, even blogging has its ebbs and flows. During abundance news times I will have a couple of blog posts per day. During slower times once a day - maybe six times per week. Again that is because I took time on a slow day to put blog posts up in drafts so I don't have to rush to get a post done daily. If there is breaking news then I rush to get it up there, otherwise I go with the flow of the day. One of my blogs only gets posted on a couple of times a week during slow times and maybe 4 times per week during busier times.
Yes I own a business but natural dog health care IS my business so I just blog what I know. I don't blog about my business per Se, but my podcast listeners and blog readers know I am a naturopath. They know I have a business and the name of that business. I put a link to my site at the end of each blog post like this "Bark N Blog is brought to you by Aspenbloom Pet Care" and I hyperlink that back to my site. On my aromatherapy blog do something similar but link back to my essential oils site instead.
Honestly I see so many quit just because blogging isn't what they thought it was going to be. So ask yourself why you're doing it in the first place and be honest with yourself. If it is to make oodles of money, then I'd find something else to do. If it is because you truly have a message to share, one you are passionate and knowledgeable about, and also even very opinionated about, then DO it. Share it and stick to it because you just never know who you might help or what you might discover along this path - about yourself, your life, others...and possibly even leave a legacy of your special footprints upon this old earth.
Thanks, Kim!
Now that you know about her, please visit her blog and tell her how great it is!
Would you like to be my next victim-er, I mean interview?
Comment on this post and I will stalk you and peek in your windows to watch your family eat dinner just like the Australian guy that follows that gecko character on Geico-Or, I'll just send you an email with a list of interview questions for you to answer.

Words with a Blogger Wednesday
Tell us about yourself and your blog.
I'm a 21 year old college student with crazy curly brown hair. I have one son with my husband of soon to be 2 years, and he is in school as well. We both work in the medical field part time and on computer projects on the side.
I love blogs! They help me meet people I would have never known otherwise. I think the blogosphere is an amazing place. My own blog is currently devoted to helping others learn how to grow their blog, reach new readers and such. I actually read books about this kind of stuff just for fun, can you believe it? haha Right now I'm learning about marketing in niches as well as using emotions in marketing strategies. I share information like this to my readers to help them in their own efforts to reach out to others.
Do you make money from your blog?
Makin $$$$?? Not really. I have a sponsor that is totally awesome and when I was doing blog designs I earned a little mulah, but no Big Bucks at the moment. But, if the time does come, of course that would be nice.
How frequently do you post?
This is a great question. I recently wrote a piece on blogging in moderation and gave examples of my own blogging habits. I usually post around 4 times a week; usually thats on weekdays, not weekends. I had to come to a balance to what I thought was best for both readers and writer.
Do you have a favorite blogger(s) that you just can't live without reading?
My readers blogs! I love to read their great posts and what they're up to. I also love finding a new blog and blogger to meet. That's always fun.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
Oh, totally. I blog for them to help them as much as I can. I look into what their needs might be to grow their blogs and research for information. COMMENTS MEAN A LOT TO ME. (Hint hint to all my readers who want more of a specific topic. Tell me so!) It helps me know whether or not the post was helpful and what they may need more information about. It makes blogging worth it to hear from my readers.
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
Blogging has helped me develop my character and personality as an individual. I used to be a very nervous person and had a hard time reaching out to others, afraid of what they might think. I have come a LONG way from my naturally timid and shy personality. Am I completely over it? No, I still have moments. But I'm not as afraid to approach others with big personalities and opinions. And there are so many nice people in the blogging world. I love the people I've met blogging and how nice they are! It reminds me that yes, there are nice people out there. (Not creepy nice, just plain ol' polite nice).
What do you do when you get writer's block?
Read a book. Research information. Review old e-mails. I sometimes forget how much information is out there for me to learn and grow from. Research and reading gets my thinking wheels going again, and I can usually find a hammer to break through the block. Sometimes you can just write about anything, and it will lead to something productive you can put on your blog.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
ATTENTION ALL NEWBIE BLOGGERS: Don't give up! Keep on going, and keep on blogging. If you don't you'll never know how it might have all turned out...
Thanks, Sarah !

Words with a Blogger Wednesday

I live in California with my husband Mike and our two kids, ages 9 and 11. I'm an author, blogger, book reviewer, coffee lover, and far-from-perfect mom who’s the first to admit that after years of parenting, I’m still learning. I love being encouraged by the stories and experiences of other moms, and I especially love being able to give some of that encouragement back. Although my blog is mostly focused on moms, I write about all kinds of topics--from parenting stories and tips, to recipes, going green, taking time for yourself, reaching out to others, faith, health, photography, books, writing, and more. I hope you’ll take a minute to stop by!
When did you start blogging?
Do you make money from your blog?
How frequently do you post?
I post about four times a week. I run a parenting feature on my blog on Mondays called Mom-Monday where I post mom-related stories or tips and bloggers can come and link up. It’s really a day for moms to come alongside each other. I also host Talkin’ About Thursdays on Thursdays where bloggers can post about topics from the schedule I put up ahead of time, stop by, link their posts up, and get “talkin” to discover each other’s blogs. On the other days I post, I typically write about my personal experiences, things I’ve seen that have inspired me, various tips, or I share photographs. (I just got a new camera a few months ago and I loving it!)
There are so many great blogs out there. If I could, I’d list them all. But, I do have a few favorites...Rocks in My Dryer – This is one of the first blogs I discovered when I started blogging, and I was instantly drawn to it. Shannon is a gifted writer and has a way of pulling you in. Nathan Bransford’s blog – I think any writer should subscribe to this blog. From how-to’s on query letters to industry updates, Nathan always has great information. Plus, he’ll make you laugh.Bring the Rain – When I first discovered Angie’s blog, her story about her daughter Audrey Caroline and her post The Past and The Pitcher had me glued to my computer with tears pouring down my face. She’s an inspiring woman, a beautiful writer, and she also recently published a book.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
Definitely. I've gotten to know many of my readers through comments and, truly, it's through my readers that a sense of community has been built. I’m so thankful for that. I've discovered many great blogs and resources, too, simply by readers taking the time to share information or leave comments. It’s been wonderful. I've loved learning about people’s families, recipes, tips, successes, challenges, and what's going on in their lives. And it’s been fun “meeting” people in places like Israel, Sicily, Ireland, and even my own backyard here in Northern California.
It has. Blogging motivates me to write about topics I might not otherwise make time for, it helps me to capture moments I don’t want to forget, and it enables me to reach out to others with my words. It’s also opened up doors to opportunities I wouldn’t have had if I weren’t blogging. I’m lucky enough to be the managing editor at 5MinutesforFaith.com, a sister site to 5MinutesforMom.com and that opportunity opened up through blogging. I also had a parenting story (which was originally a blog post) published in the book Kirtsy Takes a Bow – A Celebration of Women’s Voices Online. Blogging has been wonderful--both personally and professionally.
Actually, I hardly ever get writer’s block. It seems like I have the opposite problem; I have more ideas in my head than time to write them all! lol
I’ve had bloggers contact me with questions about growing their blogs or getting more comments, and I think it’s important to remember not to get discouraged. Visitor numbers can go up and down. Comments may or may not indicate how many people are reading your blog. And both don’t define whether or not your blog is “good”. As long as you're posting on a regular basis and providing valuable content to your readers, your blog will grow over time. I would focus on writing quality posts and connecting with others, and an increase in traffic will follow. And even more importantly, write what’s on your heart and your blog will be a reflection of you.

Words with a Blogger Wednesday
I started blogging when I was about 15 weeks pregnant or so, but I didn't really get into it until after my daughter was born. At first it was a place for me to post pregnancy updates and belly pics for friends, silly things. However it's become a very important part of my life. It's my place to vent, to be honest, to find humor in things, to connect with other women like me.
Do you make money from your blog?
No I don't make any money. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but it just hasn't happened for me yet.
How frequently do you post?
I try to post about 4 times a week. I try to schedule posts as much as I can because I find if I don't write down my ideas right away, I lose them.
Do you have a favorite blogger(s) that you just can't live without reading?
You mean besides you? ;) I absolutely love Sarah @ The Stroller Ballet (www.strollerballet.blogspot.com), Quixotic @ Quixotic Life (www.quixoticlife.com), and Theta Mom (www.thetamom.com). I love refreshing honesty and the ability to make fun of yourself. These women really put themselves out there and inspire me to be a better writer/blogger.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
Absolutely. I'm continuously amazed that anyone gives a rats patutie what I think. I'm also blown away by the amount of support and advice I receive from "strangers."
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
It really has. It's been almost like a life line to me. Especially when I'm writing through a difficult time in my journey, I can get those feelings out and actually hear from other people who have been there. I've made some great friends and I feel like I've really come into my own.
What do you do when you get writer's block?
I read other people's blogs to try and get inspired. Or I try to find a humorous observation about my day and see if it might be something other people can relate too.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
Network. Get out there and comment. Give good comments, not "Great post" but something meaningful that shows that you actually read and cared about what the blogger had to say. Follow blogs that you love. Keep your posting current and don't give up, success comes with time.
Thanks, Melissa!

A Duck in her Pond.

In the world of the Internet, I am the Blond Duck, a whimsical children's and young adult writer (though I think my stories are as much for adults as kids!)

I am also a pie aficionado and apt to write long odes about delightful things like meatballs and barbecue and tacos and waffles--generally, if it's bad for you, I'm going to write an ode about it. I also feature recipes and fun little tales about what's happening at the Pond. In the Real World, I work for a major metropolitan newspaper as a feature writer. The fun part of my job is I write stories about a lot of restaurants! I also love to dance, kickbox and spend time with my husband and two chihuahuas, Bitty and Bear.I make a teensy amount (like $2) from Google Adsense and a little bit from an ad on there, which will go down in May. And I advertise my published books on my blog. But I definitely couldn't quit my day job--I couldn't even use the money on a fancy evening out! I had dreamed of making millions and millions, but I want to have fun and write my stories more than I want to worry about marketing 24/7. Maybe when I quit my day job.
Six days a week. We have three never ending stories (serial stories that post once a week), one recipe a week and two random whimsical picture stuffed posts a week. There's something for everyone.
I love the comments they give me on my stories. There's a lot of times their words will spark a new idea and the story will go a direction I never imagined. Or there's a lot of times that they give me encouragement and inspiration when I've gotten real down about the perilous publishing world. I consider the folks that read my blog Invisible Friends, not readers. Because that's what they are.
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
I think my husband sometimes wishes I never started it, simply because I became so consumed by it for awhile (when I was trying to create the Blond Duck revolution and take over the world with my whimsical little stories!) Now that I've realized I can't have a blog like the Pioneer Woman's and write books and post six days a week and work out and go to work and cook dinner and sometimes kiss my husband and pet my dogs....I've calmed down a bit. I'm focusing on quality over quantity, and I think my Invisible Friends reflect that.
What do you do when you get writer's block?
Dance or take a walk. There's so much joy and whimsy in nature, you can't stay blocked for long.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
Visit food bloggers. They tend to be some of the nicest, most welcoming people. When I first started writing I'd visit mommy bloggers and teacher bloggers and artist bloggers....my core group of Invisible Friends are the first people that came to my blog, and the majority of them are considered food bloggers.

Words with a Blogger Wednesday
I work as a therapist for children at risk of being removed from their home. This is just the most recent of a hodgepodge of jobs I have held since surviving college. For fun I write, walk in the woods and have fun with my family.
Oh, and I blog... http://www.waystationone.com/
When did you start blogging?
October 2008
Do you make money from your blog?
I made a conscious decision early on to keep a pretty clean and simple format to my blog. No money yet, but maybe there is a publisher out there that will stumble upon me and change all that. (think they will get the hint?)
How frequently do you post?
From the beginning I posted daily. recently I have cut back to 6 posts a week. it is a good rhythm that challenges me to be disciplined in my writing.
Do you have a favorite blogger(s) that you just can't live without reading?
otin @ http://www.wizardofotin.blogpot.com/
she writes @ http://shewritesherenow.blogspot.com/
I read quite a few blogs daily, so this was a hard one.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
Most definitely. poetikat challenged me about 5 months ago to start writing poetry. before that I only told stories. now 50% of my posts are poetry. jingle spurred that on with her weekly poetry rally.
I listen to what people are saying when they leave comments. If there are posts that people don't get, it makes me think about how I will write the next time. I always try new things, some work some don't.
Outside of my writing I have a few great friends that came just from blogging, several of them I talk with on the phone now as well. I would say they have influenced me in many ways.
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
Most definitely, I used to have all this free time and now...lol. It has opened the door to using a passion of mine that I let lay dormant for far too long. I love telling stories, it makes me feel alive. Blogging gave me that opportunity.
What do you do when you get writer's block?
This actually happens quite regularly. I write. its the only way to dig out. I also keep a notebook and jot down interesting tidbits each day. Sometimes it is a phrase, sometimes it is a word that jumps out at me, sometimes its a story. I go back through the notes when I get a block and usually something will speak to me.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
A couple questions actually...why are you blogging? what are you trying to say? Are you being yourself and talking about what you love? those really help with the content.
If you want comments, comment. it really is that simple. if you want relationships, share yourself. also, pace yourself. its better to blog for the long haul than to make a big splash and disappear. I hate seeing people disappear.
Thanks so much for the opportunity to share with all your wonderful readers today!
You are so welcome, Brian!

Tell us about yourself, Judy!
My name is Judy and I have three kids and two step children ranging in ages of 21 to 2. My oldest is pregnant so I'm going to be a first time grandma. My husband is going to be deploying to Kuwait in April and I've lost track of the number of deployments he has had so far. My two children with chronic medical conditions keep me busy. My middle child wanted to give back to other epileptic children so I encouraged her with her own blog at http://angels4epilepsy.com. I telecommute from home and have been with the same company for over 10 years. My site is Health, Beauty, Children & Family http://youthfultips.blogspot.com and I can be found on Twitter as stayingyoung2.
When did you start blogging?
August 2009
Do you make money from your blog?
I make a little off of affiliate commission programs from Amazon, Commission Junction and Google Ads.
How frequently do you post?
Daily and something more than once a day.
Do you have a favorite blogger(s) that you just can't live without reading?
Simply Stacie and Six Feet Under are two of my favorites along with Nicole's Nickels
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
I try to gear my topics based on reader comments and feedback but mostly stick with the topics that I find interesting or informative.
Has blogging changed your life in any way?
It's added a new level of fun to my life. I have met some very wonderful people from fellow bloggers to readers. It has made me aware of other's plights and hard times so giving away products is something that is nice to do from the standpoint of helping some one. This past Christmas, after hearing back from one of my winners and how happy they were to be able to give their son another present, I sent her a Walmart e-Card to help her son have a better Christmas.
What do you do when you get writer's block?
Look at the latest news for ideas relative to health, beauty, family or children. There is so much information out there to share and write about.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
Don't be afraid to ask other bloggers for help. We are all out here to help one another. When you set up your blog, make sure it's what you really want to write about as once you establish yourself, it's hard to change the handles or blog names. I never expected to really grow my blog so I would have not chosen "youthfultips" as my handle. It's a great community opportunity to share so don't be hesitant, join all the other mommy groups and forums, learn and ask questions.

Words with a Blogger Wednesday

Tell us about you and your wonderful blog:
When did you start blogging?
I first started blogging for my job with two of my virtual coworkers, Tara from Deal Seeking Mom and Mandi from Organizing Your Way, a year and a half ago. I finally got around to starting my own personal blog in March of 2009.
Do you make money from your blog?
I make next to nothing at this point. I don't run ads or have sponsors, but I have some income through Amazon sales. I would like to have my blog be profitable at some point, but right now I'm focused on figuring out my niche and where I'm going with it.
How frequently do you post?
I have generally been posting three times a week this summer, but I'll be ramping up to four with school starting soon.
Do you have a favorite blogger(s) that you just can't live without reading?
I have so many I can't even begin to list them, but I love the photo tips at Digital Photography School, and I'm also a big fan of The Pioneer Woman (for her love of food and photography, of course). On the kitchen front alone, Deb at Smitten Kitchen and then, you know, there's Steamy Kitchen, David Lebovitz, Noble Pig and so many more that it really isn't fair that I haven't mentioned all of them as well.
Have your readers influenced you in any way?
If my readers comment on particular recipes, then I try to offer more in a similar vein. My friends and relatives will also mention what they like or don't like, and I try to take their constructive criticism and figure out what, if anything, needs to be different.
What do you do when you get writer's block?
I read other blogs or I read a book. Reading helps me figure out where my voice is by hearing other people's voices. I try to read people I know have engaging writing where you just can't put the book down to navigate away from their blog page.
Any other advice you might have for newbie bloggers?
I don't know that I'm qualified to answer that question, but I say just start writing. The most important part about a blog – and the hardest – is getting good content up. Get in the habit of making your blog a priority and not just something you do when you have the time or get around to it.
